Visa Requirements for Qatari Citizens
Visa requirements for citizens of Qatar are administrative entry restrictions placed on Qatari passport holders by the authorities of other countries and territories around the globe. They determine whether or not nationals of Qatar need to obtain travel permission for their destination in advance of departure.
The Henley Passport Index currently ranks the Qatari passport 58th in terms of freedom of travel among the passports of the world. This is because Qatari passport holders are granted access visa-free or with a visa on arrival to over 65 destinations worldwide.
Qatar is a member of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). Accordingly, citizens of Qatar are granted freedom of movement to any of the other GCC member states for an unlimited period of time. To gain access without a visa to a GCC country, it is only necessary to present a valid Qatari national ID card.
A number of other countries allow Qataris visa exemption for varying periods of stay from 15 days up to 1 year depending on the destination. To gain visa-exempt access to these countries, it is necessary to present a valid passport issued by Qatar on arrival.
An Electronic Travel Visa Authorization program for citizens of Qatar is available for temporary stays in over 30 countries. These simplified application protocols allow Qatari nationals to easily obtain either an electronic visa waiver or eVisa for their destination exclusively online. They allow travelers to avoid the need to endure border long queues to obtain a visa or arrival and having to submit an embassy visa application in person.
To visit these same countries for longer periods of stay, as well as to travel to around 140 territories no matter the length of stay or purpose of the trip, it is necessary to have an approved embassy visa for Qatari citizens. This must be obtained from a diplomatic government office of the destination well in advance of departure.
