Visa Policy for Algeria
The visa policy of Algeria determines who may enter the country without a visa and which foreign citizens need a visa for Algeria.
At present, travelers from only a select few countries do not need a visa for Algeria. Passport holders from 7 other North and East African nations are able to gain visa-free access to Algeria for stays up to 90 days for either business or tourism purposes.
Additionally, there is currently an Algeria visa ban in place against citizens of Israel, as Israelis are not permitted to enter the country, including for the purpose of transiting to an onward destination.
All other foreign citizens are currently required to obtain a consulate or embassy visa for Algeria from an Algerian diplomatic government office in person well in advance of their intended travel dates.
An embassy visa for Algeria is currently required regardless of whether the applicant needs a tourist visa, business visa, transit visa, work visa, student visa, or other visa option. The stay permitted and validity of an Algeria visa from an embassy, as well as whether it is issued as a single entry or multiple entry document, depends on the purpose of the stay.
Nevertheless, the Algerian government has announced that it will soon introduce an eVisa for Algeria in order to facilitate tourism and business travel for citizens from a range of countries across the globe. This expedited electronic visa application will remove the long processing times currently needed to obtain an embassy visa.
It should be noted that all individuals traveling to Algeria, whether they need a visa or not, must have a passport valid for at least 6 months from the intended date of entry to the country.
