Turkey e-Visa Requirements for Australians

  • Simplified Application Form
  • Expert Application Review
  • Approved visa or money back

Hundreds of Australian tourists visit Turkey each year. It is easy for citizens of Australia traveling to Turkey for tourism or business to apply for a Turkey online e-Visa. To gain this travel authorization, applicants must meet the Turkey e-Visa requirements for Australians.

Australia is among the nearly 100 countries that are eligible to apply online for a Turkey e-Visa, meaning that Australian passport holders can gain permission to enter Turkey without visiting a Turkish embassy or consulate.

What is a Turkey e-Visa for Australian Citizens and What Does It Do?

The electronic visa (e-Visa) for Turkey was introduced in 2013 to facilitate the process of applying for a Turkey visa. It is valid for stays of up to 90 days for Australian nationals. It can be used for single- or multiple-entry journeys, as well as to transit through Turkey.

To gain authorization to enter Turkey with an e-Visa, Australians simply need to apply via the Turkey online e-Visa application system.

For Australian nationals, the e-Visa application system is straightforward and quick to complete.

Is a Turkey e-Visa Obligatory for Australians?

Most foreign nationals, including Australians, are required to gain prior travel authorization to enter Turkey. This is done by applying for a visa before traveling.

For tourism and business purposes, the simplest way to acquire the necessary travel authorization is to apply online for a Turkish e-Visa. Travelers will find that this electronic visa will greatly speed up the visa application process.

Available via an online application system, the Turkey e-Visa for Australians saves time that may otherwise have been spent on going to a Turkish embassy or consulate to apply for a visa.

It is possible for citizens of Australia to gain a visa on arrival in Turkey, although this can involve waiting around for a while at border control and does not guarantee being granted entry into the country.

For Australian citizens who plan to move to Turkey to work or study in the country, the Turkey e-Visa is not sufficient. Instead, individuals must apply for a residence visa and/or work visa from a Turkish embassy or consulate.

Additionally, if an Australian traveler wishes to stay in Turkey for longer than 90 days for tourism or business, they must obtain a long-stay Turkish visa instead of the e-Visa.

Turkey e-Visa Benefits for Australians

The Turkey e-Visa for Australians is an online visa that permits holders to travel to Turkey without having to apply for a visa at an embassy or consulate.

The Turkey e-Visa was introduced in 2013 to expedite the visa application process for visitors to Turkey. Citizens of eligible countries, such as Australia, may complete the e-Visa online application process ahead of their leisure or business trip to Turkey.

Australian travelers to Turkey can apply for the e-Visa any time before their intended trip begins. This gives travelers peace of mind, knowing they have gained authorization to enter the country before they arrive. It is recommended that travelers submit an e-Visa application at least 48 hours before departure.

How Can I Apply for the Turkey e-Visa from Australia?

Holders of Australian passports can gain an e-Visa for Turkey by filling in the online eVisa application form.

Visitors must provide information such as personal details and passport information, as well as details of their travel itinerary while visiting Turkey.

While passport control officers at ports of entry into Turkey can verify a traveler’s e-Visa electronically, it is advised to carry a printed copy of the e-Visa in case of any problems in the border control system.

e-Visa Requirements for Australian Citizens Traveling to Turkey

To apply for a Turkey tourist online visa, Australian citizens are required to have the following items:

  • Passport valid for a minimum of 6 months beyond the duration of stay in Turkey
  • Current email address to receive the approved Turkey e-Visa
  • Payment method (credit or debit card) to cover the fee

Applicants may also be required to provide additional documentation in support of their application.

Travelers may enter Turkey within 180 days from the date of issue of the e-Visa. If an applicant’s travel dates change, they must obtain a new e-Visa – travel dates cannot be amended.

As the Turkey e-Visa is electronically linked to the applicant’s Australian passport upon approval, this same passport must be presented when entering Turkey. Applicants are advised to check their e-Visa application form thoroughly before submitting it to ensure that all the information is correct and corresponds to the information on the passport.

If the passport used for the application is lost, stolen, damaged, or otherwise becomes invalid, it will be necessary to apply for a new e-Visa for Turkey with the replacement Australian passport.

How Will I Receive my Turkey e-Visa from Australia?

Upon the approval of the Turkey e-Visa for an Australian citizen, the online application system will provide a link to download the e-Visa, in the final step of the process.

The link to download the e-Visa will also be sent to the email address registered in the application process.

In the case that an applicant is notified by the application system that their e-Visa cannot be approved, they should contact a Turkish embassy or consulate.
