Is a Visa Obligatory for Malaysian Citizens to Enter Saudi Arabia?

Yes, all Malaysian travelers are required to have a visa if they wish to enter the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The most common and popular visa is the Saudi eVisa.

The eVisa for Saudi Arabia grants Malaysian passport holders multiple entries of up to 90 days each for tourism. It is valid for a full year from their first entry. Malaysians are fitted to apply for a Saudi electronic visa if they are visiting for tourism or leisure.

As a side note, Malaysian citizens of the Islamic faith must note the eVisa grants them entry into Saudi Arabia only for Umrah purposes.

Malaysian nationals interested in long-term visits and/or entries for other purposes must visit the Saudi Consulate in Kuala Lumpur for further details.

Requirements to Apply for the Saudi Arabia eVisa from Malaysia

The visa policy for Saudi Arabia indicates the conditions international travelers, including citizens of Malaysia, must meet to obtain the online visa.

Before proceeding to the application form, we recommend you read through the visa requirements for international travel to ensure you comply with the necessary conditions for the eVisa as a Malaysian traveler.

Citizens of Malaysia must ensure they meet the following conditions:

  • Possess a Malaysian passport, valid for at least 180 days on their arrival date in Saudi Arabia
  • Provide a credit or debit card to pay the Saudi eVisa fee
  • Register their eVisa petition with a valid email address
  • Upload a digital id photo recently taken of the Malaysian applicant
  • Have medical insurance that covers the entirety of the trip to Saudi Arabia

If the Malaysian passport is set to expire within 6 months of arrival, applicants must renew it before applying.

The applicant’s photo must be of a passport-style size and should ideally have a white background.

Once these requirements have been met, Malaysians are eligible to apply for the Saudi Arabia eVisa.

Malaysian children visiting Saudi Arabia with an online visa

Any visiting party from Malaysia with minors must note that each arrival must enter Saudi Arabia with their eVisa previously granted.

The children’s parents or legal guardians can submit their dependents’ forms on their behalf without any problems.

How to Apply for a Saudi eVisa from Malaysia?

The application form for the Saudi eVisa is a quick and straightforward process. To get started, Malaysian travelers will access an online questionnaire where they will be required to answer some basic questions such as the following:

  • Full name
  • Date of birth
  • Gender
  • Country of citizenship

Applicants from Malaysia will also have to share details regarding their passports. Some of the requested data include:

  • Passport number
  • Passport issue and expiry date
  • Passport issuing country

Additionally, Malaysian visitors need to provide information about their travel itineraries, such as the arrival date and proof of accommodation. Lastly, they will also need to address some standard health and security-related questions.

Malaysians should also upload a recent, digital copy of their id photo.

We recommend that you carefully review all the information you fill in before you submit your Saudi eVisa application form. Any typos or errors could lead to an eVisa rejection from the Saudi authorities.

Payment of the Saudi eVisa processing fee by Malaysian passport holders

The final step that Malaysians must complete to apply for the Saudi e-Visa is paying the processing fee.

The payment is completed through a secure digital platform where all major credit and debit cards are accepted. Malaysian travelers must simply ensure their bank cards have been previously activated for online payments.

Evaluation Process of the eVisa for Saudi Arabia for Malaysian Citizens

Once Malaysian nationals have submitted their eVisa petition to Saudi Arabia, their application is evaluated, and within 1 to 5 business days they will receive an email with the approved eVisa in PDF format.

The online visa to Saudi Arabia will be approved if Malaysian visitors completed all the questions correctly and truthfully, and all requirements are met.

The Saudi eVisa will be electronically linked to their passport, but Malaysian travelers still need to print out a copy.

Traveling to Saudi Arabia with the eVisa from Malaysia

Malaysian visitors have a full year to enter Saudi Arabia. They can do so with the eVisa through the following authorized ports:

  • King Abdulaziz International Airport
  • King Khalid International Airport
  • Prince Mohammad Bin Abdulaziz International Airport
  • King Fahd International Airport
  • King Fahd Bridge border crossing
  • Al Batha border crossing

Additionally, Malaysian tourists can also use the eVisa to enter Saudi Arabia by sea.

Once in any of these border crossings, Malaysian visitors must head straight to the queues for eVisa holders to save time. There, immigration officers will request them their Malaysian passports and a hard copy of the eVisa.

Malaysians must note the eVisa to Saudi Arabia cannot be extended. If for any reason Malaysians need to prolong their stay unexpectedly, they will have to request a new eVisa before their current one expires.

Visa on arrival for Malaysians reaching Saudi Arabia

Although Malaysian visitors can apply for a visa on arrival in Saudi Arabia, it is best advised they apply for the eVisa beforehand to avoid last-minute inconveniences.

While the Saudi visa on arrival means having to queue at immigration desks for a considerable time, paying in cash, and carrying important documents on paper, the Saudi online visa can be obtained completely electronically and days, even weeks, before the trip.
