As of March 2019, the Pakistani government began accepting visa applications from selected nationalities through an online portal. Citizens of eligible nationalities can now apply exclusively online for a visa to visit Pakistan and be granted an electronic travel authorization before traveling.
This process speeds up and simplifies the traditional method of obtaining a visa by visiting a Pakistani diplomatic mission abroad. It has also allowed the Pakistani Border and Immigration control to process tourists entering the country faster and more securely, improving the security of Pakistan’s borders in the process.
The electronic entry visa program was launched earlier this year by the Ministry of Interior’s National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).
Who Is Eligible to Apply for a Pakistani eVisa?
At the moment, the Pakistan eVisa scheme is only accepting online applications from citizens from 5 selected countries; China, Malaysia, Turkey, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom.
Once the eVisa scheme is fully launched, the government intends to include up to 175 nationalities who will be able to apply online for an electronic travel authorization before traveling to Pakistan. The government has yet to announce how long the trial period will last, but at the moment, the online applications are only available to the previously-mentioned 5 selected countries.
For citizens from countries who will not be considered eligible to apply online for a Pakistan eVisa, it will be necessary to visit a consulate or embassy in order to obtain a regular visa for the country.
What Pakistani Visas Are Available Online?
The online application system for visas for Pakistan offers various visa types to choose from, depending on the purpose of the visit and the conditions applicants need to meet.
There are various Pakistani visas for tourism and business available online depending on the applicant’s nationality. The visas are available for varying lengths of stay, require various supporting documentation depending on citizenship, and can allow single or multiple entry to the country. Most Pakistani visas must be be applied for by specific dates before the intended trip, to allow for sufficient visa processing time.
Certain visas allow individuals to enter Pakistan for a maximum stay of 30 days, others for 90 days.
Required Documentation for an Online Visa for Pakistan
Some Pakistani visa applications will simply require passport information, travel details and personal data such as name, date of birth, and nationality. Others will involve supplying some documentation to support the Pakistan visa application.
The types of document that can be requested include:
- Invitation Letter from a sponsor in Pakistan
- Confirmed hotel booking
- Invitation Letter from an accredited tour operator in Pakistan
- Recommendation Letter from Chamber of Commerce and Industry in country of origin, Commercial Attaché, or honorary investment counsellor of the Board of Investment in Pakistan.
It is possible that additional documentation may be requested, depending on the type of application a traveler submits.
