The Myanmar eVisa for New Zealand citizens is an electronic visa that grants authorization to individuals who wish to travel to Myanmar.

Having a visa is a mandatory requirement for all New Zealand nationals entering the country.

What Is the Myanmar eVisa for New Zealand Citizens?

In 2014, the government of Myanmar (officially known as the Republic of the Union of Myanmar) introduced an electronic visa program, which greatly simplified the process of obtaining entry for travelers from NZ and other parts of the world.

NZ travelers must note that the online Myanmar visa is a single-entry travel permit that is valid for 3 months from the date of issue.

Kinds of Myanmar eVisas for nationals of NZ

The Myanmar eVisa allows NZ citizens to stay in Myanmar for up to 28 days (on a tourist eVisa) or up to 70 days (on a business eVisa).

New Zealand travelers who hold a Myanmar eVisa may use it to enter the country for the following purposes:

  • Tourism: Sightseeing, cultural activities, and visiting family and friends
  • Business: Attending expos, conducting business meetings, and visiting clients, among others.

It is important to note that NZ individuals who are planning to travel to Myanmar for other reasons (such as studying, seeking employment, or relocating) should apply for the appropriate visa. To find out more, it is recommended to schedule an appointment at the nearest Burmese embassy.

How Can I Obtain a Myanmar eVisa As a New Zealander?

Obtaining a Myanmar electronic visa only requires the following from New Zealanders:

  • Meeting the entry requirements and having essential documents at hand
  • Completing an online visa application form that takes around 15 minutes
  • Paying a small e-Visa processing fee.

All the process is quite easy and streamlined so NZ applicants can obtain their travel permit in no time.

Myanmar’s entry requirements for New Zealander citizens

The basic requirements to obtain a Myanmar eVisa for New Zealand nationals include the following:

  • An up-to-date New Zealand passport, with at least 6 months of validity remaining from the time of entry into Myanmar
  • A recent photograph of the applicant, passport-sized
  • A valid email address to receive the Myanmar eVisa approval letter
  • A bank card (such as a credit or debit card) to pay the eVisa processing fee

In the case of NZ families applying for the Myanmar eVisa with underage visitors, they should know children under the age of 7 (who are included on their parent’s passport) can also be included in their parent’s tourist eVisa application.

Travelers from New Zealand are also encouraged to check the visa policy established by Myanmar so they are aware of the current travel and entry conditions.

Myanmar’s visa application form for NZ

The online questionnaire, known as the Myanmar eVisa application form, asks New Zealand applicants to provide information about themselves, including:

  • Full name (given name and surname)
  • Email address
  • Phone number
  • Nationality
  • Gender

There will also be a section asking about the NZ applicant’s passport data, such as their passport number, issue and expiration date, and nationality.

Finally, the last section will inquire about the New Zealanders’ trip to Myanmar, including their intended port of entry, accommodation address, and planned arrival and departure dates.

Finally, the Myanmar eVisa application form requires travelers from New Zealand to pay the processing fee. This is done through a secure online platform, with both debit and credit cards accepted as a valid form of payment.

Note: Before submitting the application, visitors from NZ must abide by the general visa requirements and go through the form and ensure their answers exactly match the data that is written on their passports. Any errors or typos could lead to a delay or rejection of the Myanmar eVisa.

How Long Does it Take to Process a Myanmar eVisa From NZ?

On average, it takes about 24 hours or less to process a Myanmar eVisa in most cases.

However, if there is an error or issue with the application, it can take up to 3 days to receive a response.

New Zealanders who do not receive their approval letter in the email that was stated on the initial application are advised to check their spam folder.

Entering Myanmar from NZ With an eVisa

Before New Zealanders enter Myanmar with their eVisa, it is important to gather some paperwork. An immigration officer typically asks travelers to present the following items when crossing the border:

  • Proof of accommodation(s) in Myanmar
  • Evidence of sufficient funds for the duration of the trip
  • Proof of an onward journey, either back to the individual’s homeland or to the next country
  • A physical copy of the approved Myanmar eVisa

Likewise, NZ visitors with a tourist or business eVisa can enter Myanmar through specific ports. These are the approved ports of entry into the country:

  • Land: Tachileik, Myawaddy, Kawthaung, Tamu, Rih Khaw Dar land border checkpoints
  • Air: Yangon International Airport, Mandalay International Airport, Nay Pyi Taw International Airport

Please note that citizens of NZ and other countries arriving in Myanmar by cruise are not able to enter the country with their eVisa, since it cannot be used to enter seaports.
