In 2015, Kenya made it possible for citizens of over 140 countries, including France, to apply for an electronic visa, also known as an eVisa, to gain authorization to enter the country.

Citizens of France can apply for a Kenya eVisa. To successfully obtain this electronic document, you must follow the Kenya eVisa requirements for French citizens.

How Does the Kenya eVisa for French Work?

The approved Kenya eVisa permits citizens of France a stay of up to 90 consecutive days in the country.

This eVisa permits the holder to stay in Kenya for short stays for purposes of tourism, business, or medical reasons. If you are planning to travel to the country for other reasons, such as relocation or study, you are required to visit your nearest Kenya embassy or consulate.

Kenya eVisa validity for France

French visitors must note the online visa to Kenya is valid to use for 3 months from the date of issue.

The Kenya e-Visa for France is a single-entry eVisa. This means that if you leave Kenya’s borders once you have entered them you are required to apply for a new eVisa before re-entry.

It is possible for French applicants to extend their eVisa once they are in Kenya for another 90 days. This can be achieved by visiting the immigration headquarters in Nairobi on the day that the Kenya eVisa expires.

What Documents do French Nationals Require for the Kenya eVisa?

There are certain documents that are mandatory for obtaining a Kenyan electronic visa. These are part of the visa entry requirements for French nationals.

First, you will require a fully up-to-date French passport to apply for a Kenya eVisa. It should be valid for at least 6 months from your intended date of entry into the country.

The passport should also have at least 2 blank pages for the immigration stamps on entry and exit to Kenya.

French citizens will also require a color passport-style photograph of the applicant.

There is a small processing fee to pay, so visitors of France will also need a form of payment, such as a credit or debit card.

Applicants should additionally have a current email address to link to the application. Updates on the Kenya eVisa application’s progress, and the approved visa in PDF form, will be sent to this email address.

According to Kenya’s visa policy, the process of applying for a Kenya eVisa as French is straightforward and takes place entirely online. This means you are not required to spend time visiting embassies or making phone calls.

French passport linked to Kenya online visa

Once your eVisa is approved, it is electronically linked to your French passport. This means that if you lose your passport or it is stolen before you travel to Kenya you will be required to apply for a new eVisa using your new passport details.

Similarly, if your dates of travel change you will also be required to apply for a new eVisa.

If the passport expires before the Kenya eVisa’s validity period, the visa will expire as well.

How Do I Apply for the Kenya eVisa as a French National?

To apply for a Kenya eVisa you are required to fill in the Kenyan online visa application form.

The Kenya eVisa application steps to obtain the document as French are the following:

First, French passport holders will find questions on the application regarding their travel plans to Kenya, such as where they will be staying in the country and their dates of travel into and out of Kenya. Citizens of France will require proof of air travel as part of their application.

There will also be questions about your passport details, such as your passport number, issue date and expiry date, and questions regarding your personal circumstances.

The form is easy to complete and only takes a few minutes. Once it is done, French applicants should simply submit it for processing.

Kenya eVisa processing time for French travelers

Once submitted, your Kenya eVisa is processed rapidly, often within 24 hours. However, it is recommended you allow at least a couple of days for processing.

Once you have received your approved eVisa, it is advised that you print out a copy to bring with you on your trip. You should also take with you:

  • The same French passport that was used for your application
  • Proof you have sufficient funds for the duration of your stay
