India Medical e-Visa Information

The India Medical e-Visa, is an online visa that facilitates the visa application process for those seeking medical help in India.

Eligible citizens can travel to India for a maximum stay of 60 consecutive days for medical purposes.

The India Medical e-Visa is a triple-entry visa and is valid for 120 days from the date of issue. The second and third entries to India should be within 60 days of the first.

The online Medical e-Visa for India is available for patients receiving medical treatment for a significant health condition in an Indian hospital or recognized medical institution (e-Medical Patient visa), or for up to 2 companions traveling with the patient to India (e-Medical Companion of Patient visa).

A medical visa for India is available for children as a patient visa only.

Those who need a medical visa for India are able to apply by completing the simple India medical visa online form to receive the e-Visa via email.

All foreign citizens planning to go to India for purposes other than tourism, business, or medical visits, must contact their nearest Indian Embassy or Consulate.

India Medical e-Visa Requirements

Applicants must meet the following India medical e-Visa requirements to have India medical visa eligibility :

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from the intended arrival date in India, with 2 blank pages
  • Credit or debit card to pay the India medical visa fee
  • Current email address to receive the approved India medical e-Visa.

  • A certified letter from the Indian hospital or medical center at which the treatment is to be received

    The India medical online visa allows the holder to visit India for medical treatment, or to accompany a patient seeking medical treatment in India. A maximum of 2 companion applications is allowed for each patient. A Companion of Patient India medical e-Visa is not available for minors.

    Applicants may apply for a medical e-Visa for India up to 2 times in a calendar year. The 3 entries allowed with each India medical visa must also all be within the same calendar year. The second, or second and third entry, must be within 60 days of the first entry to the country.

    Holders of an India Medical e-Visa are not allowed to work in India, or stay in India for a period exceeding 60 days each visit.

    For short visits to India for other purposes, eligible citizens can apply for the India online e-Visa for tourism or business activities.

  • When should I apply for the medical e-Visa Online?

    Eligible citizens are required to apply for the India online Medical e-Visa at least 4 days before the intended date of entry to India. However, applicants are advised to apply at least 1 month in advance to avoid delays in processing or receiving the visa.

  • What ports of entry can I use with the medical e-Visa?

    Foreign nationals traveling with the medical e-Visa for India are required to arrive at one of the following ports of entry:

    Travelers who wish to enter India by land or different sea or airports must have previously applied for and received a traditional visa for India.

    India medical e-Visa holders may only enter India through one of the authorized ports of entry.

    Travelers with the India online visa for medical purposes are able to exit India through any authorized Immigration Check Post (ICP).

    Yes. Minors are eligible for an India Medical e-Visa as long as they are the patients. A Companion of Patient India medical e-Visa is not available for children.

  • What can I do if I make a mistake in my application?

    When completing an India Medical e-Visa application it is necessary to double check all the information provided before submitting the online form. Any information provided by the applicant which does not match the details of the passport will result in the e-Visa application being delayed or canceled.

    Should there be a mistake on the application after its submission, applicants are required to complete and submit a new India e-Visa Tourist application form.

  • What is the cost of India's medical e-Visa?

    The India Medical e-Visa fee depends on the applicant’s nationality. The standard India Medical e-Visa fee is $80. However, there are some exceptions:

    • Nationals from Japan, Singapore, and Sri Lanka are required to pay a visa fee of $25.
    • Nationals from Mozambique, Russia, Ukraine, the UK, and the US are required to pay a visa fee of $100.
    • Nationals from Argentina, Cook Islands, Fiji, Indonesia, Jamaica, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Mauritius, Micronesia, Myanmar, Nauru, Niue Island, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Seychelles, Solomon Islands, South Africa, Tonga, Tuvalu, Uruguay, and Vanuatu, are exempt from paying the India medical e-Visa fee.
  • Is it possible to extend my India medical e-Visa?

    No, an India medical visa extension is not possible. However, it is possible to apply for the India e-Visa up to 2 times per calendar year.
