Ethiopia eVisa Requirements for Indian Nationals

  • Simplified Application Form
  • Expert Application Review
  • Approved visa or money back

Indian passport holders planning to visit Ethiopia will require a visa to enter the country, no matter the travel purpose or duration of the stay.

The Ethiopian government introduced an online visa in 2017 to facilitate international tourists’ entry to the country. It is known as the Ethiopia eVisa and is applicable online. There are several types of Ethiopia visa available for Indian citizens. The eVisa replaces the need to request an embassy or consular visa or wait in long queues at the Ethiopian border to obtain a visa on arrival.

What Is The Ethiopia eVisa for Indian Visitors?

The Ethiopia eVisa, or electronic visa, is a single-entry visa for Indian nationals. It is available for Indians planning to visit Ethiopia on tourism. Once approved, the Ethiopia eVisa permits Indian tourists to stay in the country for either 30 days or 90 days.

Indian tourists traveling to Ethiopia with the eVisa should take note it is a single-entry visa. If their travel plans include leaving Ethiopia momentarily to visit a neighboring country, they should have a second eVisa previously granted.

Ethiopia eVisa Requirements for Indian Passport Holders

When applying for an Ethiopian tourist eVisa online, Indian citizens will require certain documents and information to obtain approval. Indian applicants are recommended to read through the visa requirements for Indian nationals and check they have the correct and up-to-date information before beginning the Ethiopia eVisa application.

The documentation required to apply for an Ethiopia eVisa as an Indian national is as follows:

  • A current and valid Indian passport: This must have at least six months’ validity from the dates of arrival in Ethiopia.
  • A digital image of the biographical page of the passport
  • A passport-style photograph of the applicant
  • A debit or credit card to pay the electronic visa processing fee
  • A valid email address. Please note that the email address must be a frequent and accessible email account. The approved Ethiopia eVisa and all updates regarding its progress will be sent to this address.

Indians with a passport set to expire soon should renew it before beginning the eVisa process. Likewise, they should also ensure that the card they want to use to pay the processing fee has sufficient funds and is authorized for online transactions.

How Can Indian Citizens Apply for an Ethiopia Visa?

Once Indian nationals confirm they meet the requirements, they can continue to the Ethiopia eVisa application form and submit it for approval.

The Ethiopia eVisa form for Indian passport holders is an online process that takes only 15 minutes to fill out. Indian applicants will also be required to enter the information from their passport and specific travel details, including dates into and out of the country plus flight information.

Once they have completed the form and submitted it, the approved eVisa is granted via email as an attached PDF between 24 and 48 hours. The evaluation can take longer during busy periods. Indian travelers are recommended to submit their application well before their visit to account for any unexpected delays.

The Ethiopian authorities will send the approved Ethiopia eVisa to the email used during your registration. We recommend Indian visitors print out a copy of the eVisa or store a copy on their phone to present to border officials on arrival.

Ethiopia eVisa Travel Information for Indian Nationals

Indian travelers should note the Ethiopia tourist eVisa allows entry to Ethiopia via Bole International Airport only. It does not grant access via land border crossings or seaports. Bole International Airport is located in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia’s capital, with excellent connections with the rest of the country.

Indians visitors at Bole International Airport with their approved online visa can head straight to the eVisa fast track counter at the airport’s passport control. The eVisa fast track is a very convenient and time-saving option for international travelers who have just arrived in the country.

If an Indian traveler has their passport stolen or misplaced before traveling to Ethiopia, their previously granted eVisa becomes invalidated. They must reapply for a new Ethiopian tourist eVisa with the newly issued passport details. Indian applicants should note the tourist visa is linked electronically to the original Indian passport and is not transferable to a new document.

If Indian nationals want to travel to Ethiopia for reasons other than tourism, they will require a different visa detailed in the Ethiopian visa policy.

Indians who want to extend their stay in Ethiopia can request a 30-day extension of their eVisa at the Head Office of the Main Department for Immigration and Nationality Affairs in Addis Ababa. They will need to apply in person and pay the extension fee.

Ethiopian consular or embassy visa

There are visas available for business, medical travel, study, and residency. Indians needing to visit Ethiopia for these reasons can contact their nearest Ethiopian consulate or embassy for further information.
