The Egyptian government introduced the Egyptian e-Visa (an online visa) in 2017. It grants entry to visitors of selected nationalities to go to Egypt by completing an online visa application.

The Egyptian visa policy determines the main advantages and requirements for the e-Visa. It is valid to be used for entry during 90 days (3 months) from the date of issuance. If Russians have not entered Egypt for 3 months after having received their e-Visa they must request a new one. They can either select a single or multiple-entry e-Visa.

Citizens who obtain the single-entry e-Visa will be granted a stay of 30 days. In contrast, those who select the multiple-entry e-Visa will be able to enter and leave from Egypt as often as they need during 6 months, provided none of their visits exceeds 30 days. Lastly, Russian travelers must note they can only use this online visa for tourism purposes.

Requirements for the Egyptian e-Visa for Russian Nationals

Russian passport holders are eligible to obtain the Egyptian e-Visa. Before proceeding to the application form, we recommend they first read through the visa requirements for Russian citizens. The main conditions for the Egyptian e-Visa are listed below:

  • Have a Russian passport valid for at least 6 months from their arrival date
  • Submit a digital photo of the applicant (passport-style)
  • Have a digital image of the passport’s biographical page
  • Provide a frequently used email address
  • Use a debit or credit card
  • Proof of accommodation in Egypt

Russian citizens with a passport that will expire in less than six months from the date they intend to reach Egypt must first renew it before completing their e-Visa form. They should also upload digital copies of their passport’s biographical page and a recent ID photo.

The e-Visa is a unique online visa and will be automatically linked to the holders’ passports. It is not transferable to a second travel document. This is especially important for Russian nationals who need to renew their passports after sending their application.
We recommend Russian travelers register with a frequently used email address. The Egyptian government will issue all their communications plus the e-Visa via email or online chats.

Russian visitors must also share their accommodation details in Egypt before beginning the application process. Lastly, since the payment of the e-Visa will be made electronically, Russian passport holders are recommended to check their cards have been previously activated for online payments.

Russian nationals interested in traveling to Egypt for longer periods of time and purposes other than touristic visits, such as professional or academic opportunities, should schedule a visit at the Egyptian embassy in Moscow for further options.

The Application Form for the Egyptian e-Visa for Russians

The application form for the Egyptian e-Visa is a quick and straightforward process. It is a step-by-step process that Russian travelers must complete in one turn. As mentioned above, they will use an email ID to create their account. Therefore, we recommend they register with an email address they frequently use.

They will then need to fill in the e-Visa form, providing personal information, passport details, and travel plans, including the following:

  • Full name
  • Citizenship
  • Passport issue date and expiry date
  • Email address
  • Employment
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Confirmation of sufficient funds for their stay
  • Travel details
  • Type of entry required

They will also have to upload digital images of their passport’s biographical page and id photos. Russian applicants should check that all their answers are correct and true. Any mistake or typo could lead to delays in the approval of their e-Visa.

Do Russian families need the e-Visa for their children?

Yes, Russians planning a family trip to Egypt with underage travelers should note that every visitor must travel with their Egyptian e-Visa previously granted. Their parents or legal guardians are authorized to submit their application on their behalf and register their application with the same email and payment methods without any problems.

Payment of the Egyptian e-Visa by Russian travelers

Russian applicants conclude the e-Visa process by paying the processing fee. The payment is carried out by a secure online system where most international cards are accepted.

Evaluation Process of the Egyptian e-Visa

Once the forms have been submitted and payments have been correctly processed, the Egyptian government evaluates them. The evaluation takes up to 7 days, after which Russian applicants will receive their approved e-Visa in a confirmation email.

Upon receiving their e-Visa, it is recommended that they print out a copy and store it next to their passport before departure.

We recommend Russian applicants to submit their application at least 7 business days in advance of their trip to account for busy touristic periods. The e-Visa can be used for Russian visitors to enter Egypt by road, air, or sea.

Traveling from Russia to Egypt on the Egypt e-Visa

Russian visitors are advised to arrive with a printed copy of their e-Visa and display it at border control along with their passport to be authorized entry into the country.

The return ticket should be planned before the e-Visa expires; otherwise, they will be obliged to pay a fine for overstaying.

If Russian tourists need to prolong their stay, they can request an extension at the Egyptian Immigration Office.

Can Russian visitors obtain the Visa on Arrival to visit Egypt?

Yes, Russian passport holders can obtain the visa on arrival once they reach Egypt. Nevertheless, they should note this entails queuing up at border control — often for a long period — before being granted one, and it can only be requested at an international airport and only grants them a single entry.
The e-Visa is a much more convenient method of obtaining travel authorization and is the preferred visa for Russian travelers.
