Egypt e-Visa Requirements for Citizens of Japan

  • Simplified Application Form
  • Expert Application Review
  • Approved visa or money back

The Egyptian government introduced the Egyptian e-Visa (an Electronic Visa Authorization) in 2017. It allows citizens of selected nationalities, including Japan, to travel to Egypt by completing an online visa application. It facilitates obtaining a valid permit to enter the country, reducing the time usually required for personal visits at an embassy or consular office.

The Egyptian visa policy details the main features of the e-Visa and the requirements Japanese nationals will need to obtain one. It is an online visa with a validity of 90 days (3 months) from the date of issuance. Japanese requesters can select between a single or multiple entry e-Visa.

Japanese visitors who apply for the single entry e-Visa will be granted a stay of 30 days. On the other hand, those with the multiple-entry option will be able to enter and depart from Egypt as often as they like during 6 months. They will simply have to guarantee that none of their visits exceeds 30 days. Lastly, Japanese applicants must take into account this online visa is only valid for tourism and leisure.

What are the Requirements for Japanese Nationals to Obtain the e-Visa?

Before logging on to the online application form, international visitors must check they meet the requirements for international travel for Japanese citizens. The main conditions for the Egyptian e-Visa include the following:

  • Have a Japanese passport valid for at least 6 months on their arrival date
  • Provide a frequently used email address
  • Use a debit or credit card

They must also have the following information ready concerning their passport and travel plans:

  • Digital image of the passport’s biographical page
  • Digital id photo (passport-style)
  • Accommodation details in Egypt

Japanese travelers with a passport whose validity will be less than 6 months on the arrival date in Egypt must send it for renewal before applying for the e-Visa. This online visa is unique and can only be linked to one passport. If a Japanese visitor has had to replace or renew their passport after applying for the e-Visa, they should note it cannot be used with the new one.

We recommend Japanese applicants to check the card they plan to use for payment has been previously authorized for online payments. Lastly, they should note that the Egyptian government will issue the approved e-Visa plus all communications by email, so we recommend registering with a frequently used email id.

Japanese nationals looking to travel to Egypt for other motivations such as full-time job-seeking opportunities or higher education should note the e-Visa does not apply to their situation. We recommend they schedule a visit to the Egyptian embassy in Tokyo and enquire about further visa options.

How to Apply for the Egypt e-Visa from Japan?

Japanese citizens who confirm they meet the requirements for the e-Visa mentioned above can proceed to complete the online application form with their personal, passport, and other travel details (summarized below):

  • Full name
  • Citizenship
  • Passport issuance date
  • Passport expiry date
  • Email id
  • Current occupation
  • Accommodation details
  • Proof of sufficient funds
  • Travel plans
  • Type of entry required

Japanese requesters should provide accurate details consistent with the information shown on their passports to eliminate any chance of processing delays resulting from erroneous information. They will continue the process by uploading digital copies of a recent id photo and passport’s biographical page.

Payment of the Egyptian e-Visa by Japanese applicants

Japanese travelers will complete the application process by paying the e-Visa processing fee. Most international debit and credit cards are recognized, and requesters must simply confirm they have been previously activated for online transactions.

Do underage visitors from Japan need an e-Visa?

Yes, if any visiting party from Japan includes minors, they must also obtain the e-Visa to enter Egypt. Their parents can naturally submit their applications on their behalf with the same email address and payment methods without any problem.

How Long Does it Take to Receive the e-Visa for Japanese Applicants?

When Japanese citizens submit their application for the e-Visa, the Egyptian government evaluates their requests. The analysis process takes up to a week (7 days), after which they will issue the approved e-Visas attached in a confirmation email. We recommend submitting their petition at least a full week before their arrival to account for busy touristic periods.

Traveling from Japan to Egypt With the e-Visa

Japanese visitors must reach Egypt with a printed copy of their e-Visa. As mentioned above, they should ensure they arrive in the country with the same passport they used during their application process. Once they reach border controls, they will submit both documents for inspection before being granted entry into the country.

Japanese travelers are obliged to book their departure tickets before their Egypt e-Visa expires to avoid paying fines for overstaying their visas.

Can Japanese citizens obtain the Visa on Arrival when reaching Egypt?

Yes, Japanese nationals can apply for the Visa on Arrival as soon as they reach Egypt. Nevertheless, they must note this option often involves waiting in long queues upon arrival. The Egyptian e-Visa is a much more comfortable and preferred travel choice for Japanese visitors.
