Canada eTA Requirements for Citizens of Spain

  • Simplified Application Form
  • Expert Application Review
  • Approved visa or money back

Spanish passport holders are eligible to apply for the Canadian Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA). The Canadian government introduced this online travel permit in 2015 to facilitate the arrival of international travelers visiting Canada for tourism, business, or transiting through.

The Canadian visa policy specifies the different travel permits that international visitors need to enter the country. Spaniards are exempt from needing a standard embassy visa. They can go straight ahead and apply for an eTA online from the comfort of their homes.

The Canadian eTA is a multiple entry permit that authorizes Spanish visitors to stay for up to 6 months per entry. The eTA is valid for 5 years. If the Spanish passports expire in less than 5 years, the eTA expires with them. It is available at a very competitive price of 19 US Dollars. This includes the government rate of US $ 6 plus a service fee of US $ 13.00.

Documents Required for the Canada eTA by Spanish Nationals

Before beginning the eTA application from Spain, the Canadian government recommends reading through the international travel requirements for Spaniards. These are pretty standard and easy-to-meet conditions for foreign travel. Spanish citizens must confirm they have the following items ready:

  • Biometric passport
  • Email address
  • Debit or credit card

The biometric (also referred to as an electronic) passport is a secure travel document. It facilitates entry to the country with quicker queues at passport controls. Spanish travelers with a biometric passport must confirm that it will be valid during their visit in Canada.

They must also ensure that the email address they provide a frequently used one. The Canadian government will issue all communications (this includes the confirmation of the granted eTA) only by email. Lastly, Spanish applicants must use a debit or credit card that is authorized for online payments.

Spanish nationals traveling to Canada for reasons other than business or tourism, such as completing studies at a University of school, or full-time job seeking, should note the Canadian eTA is not compatible with these activities. Instead, they should schedule an appointment at the Canadian embassy in Madrid or the consulates in Barcelona or Malaga for further details.

How Do I Apply for the Canada eTA as a Spanish Citizen?

The application process for a Canada eTA is easy and straightforward and requires Spaniards to fill in an online questionnaire and submit it for evaluation. The form includes standard questions common to many entry authorization applications and asks the Spanish citizen to submit basic information such as the following details:

  • Full name
  • Place of birth
  • Citizenship
  • Gender
  • Email address
  • Passport details
  • Medical history
  • Confirmation of sufficient funds for their stay

If Spanish travelers have already obtained their travel tickets to Canada, they will simply be required to share their arrival details. It is imperative to note that their answers cannot be changed after submission. We recommend checking your answers properly before proceeding to the payment section of the eTA application process.

Traveling to Canada With Minors From Spain With the eTA

Spanish applicants planning a visit to Canada with underage citizens can use the Canadian eTA. They should bear in mind that it is necessary to request an individual eTA for each traveler, regardless of their age or if they still share their passport with one of their parents or guardians.

How Will Spaniards Receive their Canada eTA?

Once Spanish citizens have submitted their Electronic Travel Authorization requests, they are evaluated and processed by the Canadian government.

The evaluation process takes between 24 and 72 hours. Upon confirmation that the application is in order and the payment has been successfully processed, the approved eTAs are electronically linked to the Spanish travelers’ passports, who will be notified by email.

Traveling from Spain to Canada with the Approved eTA

Once the approved eTAs are linked to their passports, Spanish nationals are authorized to travel to Canada.

With a validity of 5 years, the Canadian eTA offers ample flexibility to Spanish citizens to make one or more visits throughout this period. They must simply remember to book their arrival and departure tickets for each stay within 6 months each time.

Nationals of Spain do not need to carry a printed copy of the eTA. They will simply have to remember to present their passports before boarding their flight to Canada and upon arrival in Canada at passport controls to be scanned, which will allow entry.

Extension of the Canadian Electronic Travel Authorization for Spanish Visitors

Spanish passport holders are authorized to stay in Canada for 6 months maximum during their visits. Nevertheless, if they encounter any unexpected issues during their stay in Canada and need to remain in the country for a longer period, they can request an eTA extension.

They must apply 30 days before they reach the end of the initial 6 months. The Canadian government will issue an extension of their eTA within 24 hours.
