Before beginning the eTA application from Spain, the Canadian government recommends reading through the international travel requirements for Spaniards. These are pretty standard and easy-to-meet conditions for foreign travel. Spanish citizens must confirm they have the following items ready:
- Biometric passport
- Email address
- Debit or credit card
The biometric (also referred to as an electronic) passport is a secure travel document. It facilitates entry to the country with quicker queues at passport controls. Spanish travelers with a biometric passport must confirm that it will be valid during their visit in Canada.
They must also ensure that the email address they provide a frequently used one. The Canadian government will issue all communications (this includes the confirmation of the granted eTA) only by email. Lastly, Spanish applicants must use a debit or credit card that is authorized for online payments.
Spanish nationals traveling to Canada for reasons other than business or tourism, such as completing studies at a University of school, or full-time job seeking, should note the Canadian eTA is not compatible with these activities. Instead, they should schedule an appointment at the Canadian embassy in Madrid or the consulates in Barcelona or Malaga for further details.
